Reconstruction of the collapsed Namnai bridge which connects southern Taraba state to other parts will soon commence as the State Government and the North East Development Commission have confirmed its plan.

The managing Director of the Commission Mohammed Goni said this when he visited the site after holding meetings with Governor Agbu Kefas.

The delegation from the North East Development Commission led by the Managing Director Mohammed Alkali, were in Taraba State to inspect projects at the instance of the Commission.

Their first port of call was to the State Governor Agbu Kefas represented by his Deputy Aminu Alkali.

He commended the collaboration between the Taraba State Government and the Commission, and further requested the Commission to reconstruct the Namnai bridge which collapsed over one week ago due to over flooding, disconnecting the State from it’s route to the Southern part of the country.

The NEDC Managing Director Mohammed Alkali followed up his acceptance to restore the collapsed bridge with a visit to the site in Gassol Local Government Area.

At the river banks of the collapsed bridge, a new way of life of the people, is that vehicles that wish to enter or leave Jalingo through the route, board ferries from one end of the river to another,at a cost of 5000 naira.

Other economic activities are also booming at the collapsed Bridge site.

Projects visited by the NEDC team in Taraba State included the 100 staff quarters housing unit in the College of education Zing, an entreprenueral centre under construction and a water project in the Taraba State University, and street light projects in some parts of Jalingo
