Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas

Hunters and vigilante groups in Taraba State have been asked to register and be streamlined under theTaraba Marshall’s security outfit, to ensure proper coordination and effectiveness in providing security to the state.

Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, gave the directive on Tuesday while speaking at the end of an enlarged security committee meeting, held at the Banquet Hall TY Danjuma House in Jalingo, Taraba State.

In one of the largest security meetings to be held in Taraba State in recent times, Governor Agbu Kefas directed the set up of local security desks in all local government areas of the state.

The set up of the security network also formed part of the resolutions at the meeting.

Governor Kefas, who chaired the meeting, directed that vigilante groups and local hunters be streamlined under the state’s Security Marshall outfit, as well as joint patrols of all the critical natural assets such as forests, farmlands, and waterways.

Governor Kefas added that faith-based organisations and the traditional institution will be empowered to hold monthly peace and security forums.

He also tasked religious leaders to educate their followers on early warning and early response mechanisms in conflict situations.

The security meeting was attended by the state’s security council committee, commissioners, council chairmen, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other critical stakeholders.

The expanded security meeting was held in the wake of pockets of insecurity in parts of the state, the latest of which is the Munga-Lelau attack, which left at least 50 persons dead.
