A group of concerned citizens from Southern Taraba State have cautioned the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), in the state, against deviating from the rotational arrangement of the party, in electing a governorship candidate in the forthcoming 2023 election.
The group said the next PDP governorship candidate should come from Northern Taraba, and not from the Southern Senatorial zone, as being advocated by some party bigwigs in the state.
As political parties continue to map out strategies to shop for credible candidates that can stand to gain the votes of the majority, some PDP political big wigs from Southern Taraba State have indicated interest to vie for the governorship tickets.
But, this group from the same Southern Taraba State is calling on the Peoples Democratic Party and Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku, to restrict the ticket only to candidates from Northern Taraba State, in the interest of justice and equity.
According to them, the present Governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku is from Taraba South, and it is now the turn of Taraba North to produce a Governorship candidate, in line with the rotational arrangement of the PDP, to give all geo-political zones in the state a sense of belonging, as Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku is also a beneficiary of such political rotational arrangement.
The Southern Taraba youths said the PDP has won the Governorship election in Taraba State since 1999, due to its rule of fairness and equity, and such reputation must not be allowed to be toyed with, for selfish reasons.
