Hundreds of children have fallen victims to human traffickers in Taraba State, under the guise of greener.

The state has been identified as endemic in terms of trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants, a record that the Taraba State Governor’s wife, Anna Ishaku, and Civil Society groups have decided to change, through sensitizations, in partnership with the European Union.

The European Union support from the Action Against Trafficking in Persons, and Smuggling of Immigrants in Nigeria, in collaboration with the Office of the Wife of the Taraba State Governor, under the Hope Afresh Foundation, as well as Civil Society Organisations in Taraba State, have taken up sensitization campaigns, to stop the trend.

Their first point of call was the Taraba State Government House, where they were addressed by the Secretary to the Taraba State Government, Anthony Jellison.

They also intend to take their cause to those directly affected in the rural communities.

The Taraba State House of Assembly has domesticated the Child’s Right Act in 2021, a law that will provide a legal framework to protect children, as they are in the majority of human trafficking victims in the state.
