The Taraba State Government has declared that it will continue to build on the vast tourism opportunities in the State to attract local and foreign investors, as it upgrades facilities to enhance the experience of tourists.

A delegation from the State’s Ministry ofHeritage and Ecotourism led an inspection on preparation ahead of the Nwonyo Fishing Festival.

The Nwonyo International Fishing Festival, which is being revived by Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, is one of the biggest tourists attraction events in the State.

Every year, the present demonstration in the State has continued to seek ways to improve on the event, to enhance the experience of tourists, as it has engaged in investment partnerships to upgrade facilities at the Nwonyo Lake.

On Monday, Taraba State’s Commissioner For Heritage and Ecotourism, Joseph Nagombe led a delegation from the State Government on an inspection of the Nwonyo Lake, ahead of the 2026 Nwonyo Fishing Festival.

The Commissioner said the purpose of the visit was to assess the level of preparations for the 2026 Nwonyo Fishing Festival, with a target for longterm tourism development goals, adding that the lake is being repositioned to serve as an all-year round tourism hub.

Also on the team were traditional chiefs from Southern Taraba State, led by the chairman of the Traditional Council Of Chiefs, the Aku-Uka of Wukari Manu Ali, as well as the traditional custodians of the Nwonyo Lake.

The traditional chiefs commended the State Government’s level of preparation for the forthcoming Fishing Festival, noting that it is a suitable platform to display the rich cultural heritage of the Southern Taraba people.
