The recently inaugurated special security taskforce codenamed “‘Operation Akpakwu” by Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has raided a suspected baby factory and rescued twenty-four pregnant young girls alongside eleven children.

Two suspects who allegedly run the baby factory located along the headquarters of Calabar South Local Government Area in Anantigha were also arrested.

In a statement made available to ait.live by the Commander of the military section of the operative, Major Stanley Ikepeme, said the affected pregnant girls have been handed over to officials of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP.

He said that the Nigeria Army would not relent in its task of ensuring that peace and security reign in the state.

The statement quoted an official from NAPTIP, Oba Jacobs, who received the victims and suspects, saying that they would be investigated and charged to court accordingly.

Jacobs urged the public to keep an eye on their neighbours and report suspicious activities to the agency for proper action.

He said that the agency had a facility in Calabar where the suspects would be kept until proper investigation would be conducted and those found wanting would face the wrath of the law.
