The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has refuted reports of national grid collapse, clarifying that the power outage experienced in some parts of the country was due to the tripping of transmission lines.
According to a statement by TCN’s General Manager Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah on Saturday, the Osogbo-Ihovour line tripped at 13:41 hours, followed by the Benin-Omotosho line.
It said these resulted in a reduction of bulk power supply to the Lagos axis.
TCN emphasized that the total generation on the grid was 4,335.63MW before the tripping and 2,573.23MW after, indicating that the grid did not collapse.

The statement also said that the affected transmission lines impacted power supply to Egbin, Olorunsogo, Omotoso, Geregu, and Paras power plants, but power has been restored to all except the Benin-Omotoso 330kV line, which is still undergoing repairs.
TCN appealed to the public to rely on verified information, stressing the importance of accurate reporting to avoid misinformation.
