Team Nigeria wins 14th African scrabble championship

Team Nigeria has emerged Champions of the 14th African Scrabble Championship Which ended in Lusaka the capital of Zambia this Monday, making it her 13th title out of 14 editions.

The country achieved the feat through the university of Lagos health education 300 level undergraduate Enoch Tochukwu Nwali, who won a total of 25 1/2 games with a cumulative plus of 2023 to finish in the first position ahead of former world champion and two time African Champion willington Jighere and prince omosefe to make it a Nigeria top 3 out of the 86 scrabbles players from 10 countries who played a total of 32 games each in the four days competition.

It was double celebration for Nigeria as Adekoyejo Adegbesan got elected as the new president of Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA) by the continental African Scrabble governing body in Lusaka Zambia on Sunday for the next two years.

The Ogun State born scrabble player and scrabble club owner defeated the incunbent president Mohammed camara of Sierra Leone with 9 votes to 1 to become the third Nigerian to occupy the no 1 position.

Two Nigerian former Scrabble presidents Engineer Toke Aka and Alhaji Suleman Gora, had previously held sway in the continent with the former heading PANASA for 12 years from 2002 to 2014 and the latter for 4 years between 2014 and 2018.
