Oyo State House of Assembly is facing internal crisis as Chief Whip Gbenga Oyekola officially dissociated himself from an alleged plot to pit the legislature against Governor Seyi Makinde.
In a statement following a high-level meeting at the Governor’s Lodge, Oyekola reaffirmed his “unwavering loyalty” to the Governor and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
He claimed those he referred to as “agents of disunity” are actively trying to manufacture a rift between the executive and legislative branches.
Oyekola revealed that Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin briefed lawmakers on recent private invitations. According to the Chief Whip, the Olubadan allegedly offered the Speaker an All Progressives Congress, APC House of Representatives ticket and campaign funding in exchange for shifting political lanes, an offer the Speaker reportedly declined.
The Speaker also reported a meeting with former First Lady, Florence Ajimobi regarding similar political maneuvers, which he also rejected.
Oyekola emphasised that he was never part of these consultations, stating, “I am a true son of Oyo committed to peace and the success of this administration.”

Simultaneously, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has dismissed the impeachment rumours as “baseless lies.”
In a statement dated April 14, 2026, the monarch’s media aide, Adeola Oloko, clarified that a traditional ruler has no constitutional power to impeach a governor or even a local government chairman.
The Palace expressed concern over conflicting narratives, pointing out that just 24 hours earlier, former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose had alleged a reverse plot by the state government to remove the Olubadan.
Both the Assembly leadership and the Palace now appear focused on de-escalating a weekend of intense political speculation in the Pacesetter State.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, has denied allegations that he received money from APC proxies to facilitate the impeachment of Governor Seyi Makinde, calling the claim false and politically motivated to destabilise the state government and legislature.
Ogundoyin said no money exchanged hands at any meeting and disclosed that although he was offered monetary inducement, he declined it without hesitation because no amount can buy his conscience or compromise his loyalty to the Governor, the PDP, and the people.
He insisted he would not be part of any agenda to destabilise the government.
The Speaker reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to Governor Makinde and the ruling party in the state, saying he would never betray the people’s mandate or undermine the administration.
He noted that under his leadership the Assembly remains committed to constitutional order, good governance, and the collective interest of the people, and that he has consistently carried the Governor along in all engagements.
On claims linking his visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, to political scheming, Ogundoyin clarified that the visit was purely consultative and occurred weeks before his consultation.
He said he met the monarch to inform him of his governorship ambition and to seek his blessings, stressing that the visit was rooted in respect and tradition.
He urged the public to disregard what he described as unfounded attempts to create division within the state’s political leadership.
