The Federal High Court in Abuja has declined a bail application filed by Tukur Mohammed Mamu, currently held in custody on Terrorism charges brought by the Federal Government.
Delivering the ruling on Wednesday, Justice Mohammed Umar cited the diligence of the State Securiy Services SSS, in handling the matter, noting that there was no basis to grant bail under the circumstances.
The judge emphasized that the court typically considers bail where there is evidence of delay or lack of seriousness on the part of the prosecution, a condition not met in this case.
In response to concerns raised over Mamu’s health, Justice Umar ordered the DSS to facilitate immediate medical attention for the defendant at a health facility of his choice, as recommended by his legal team.
Furthermore, the court directed that Mamu be granted access to his family members, ensuring that his fundamental rights are respected during detention.
Mamu was arrested on September 7, 2022 by Egyptian security officials at the Cairo International Airport on reasonable suspicion of financing Boko Haram terrorists.
He was alleged to have convinced the terrorists to discuss ransom payments with individual families of the hostages of the 28 March, 2022 train attack in Katari, Kaduna State.
