The Niger State Commissioner for Homeland Security retired Brigadier General Bello Mohammed, has confirmed that an unspecified number of people have been killed and abducted after terrorists invaded a market in Madaka community, in Rafi Local Government Area of the state.
Though the commissioner did not give details of the attack, he said the state government was working in collaboration with security agencies, to put an end to the incessant attacks on communities in the state.
However, a source in the area confirmed that the terrorists killed no fewer than 21 people.
It was also gathered that the attack occurred in broad daylight at about 3 p.m. on Thursday, when the community market was in full swing, resulting in the huge casualty.
According to the source, about 50 houses, including commercial shops, cars and motorcycles, were also burnt during the attack.
The suspected terrorists were said to have entered the village, shooting sporadically, killing people, and burning down the market, as well as abducting Unspecified numbers of the villagers.
It was further gathered that since an earlier attack on the same community some years ago, when the district head was killed, there hasn’t been any security presence in the community paving way for more attacks.
