Terrorists have reportedly launched deadly attack on Magarya town in Zurmi Local government area of Zamfara State, North-West Nigeria killing 11 people. Residents say among those killed are seven mobile policemen and four civilians.
The terrorists were said to have stormed the Magarya community Wednesday evening, on motorcycles, bearing sophisticated firearms, where they engaged in gun battle with security operatives killing mobile police who paid the supreme price.
On the side of the terrorists, there were many casualties as a result of firepower of the security forces with some of them escaping with possible gunshot wounds into the bush.
The attackers also set ablaze three cars including that of the District Head of the troubled Magarya community who is the biological brother of former speaker of State House Assembly, Nasiru Magarya.
The locals disclosed that the suspected terrorists who carried out the dastardly act at the Magarya town also burned the house of the former Zamfara Speaker and the Model Primary School and other valuables. Several people were said to have sustained different degrees of injuries.
Efforts to get the Zamfara State Police Command to confirm the incident were unsuccessful as the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent Yazid Abubakar did not respond to calls, WhatsApp or SMS sent to him.
It would be recalled that about two years ago, the terrorists invaded Magarya town, burned the then Speaker’s residence and whisked away his aged father who died in captivity.
