Terrorists kill 28 people in Tureta LGA of Sokoto State

No fewer than 28 persons were reportedly killed when terrorists launched an attack on Duma village in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State, North-West Nigeria.

Eyewitness accounts said, the incident occurred about 8am on Wednesday as the terrorists operated till 7pm without any response from security operatives before leaving the affected community.

Some locals said the terrorists who rode on motorcycles stormed the troubled community in large number with sophisticated weapons and started firing sporadic gunshots resulted in the killing of the 28 people.

The locals explained, that the over 20 people who died are those who tried to escape the attack by jumping into the river where most of them could not swim and died as a result of their inability to swim.

The terrorists were said to have rustled large number of cattle and some community members were forced to lead the livestock out of the town for them.

It was said, some of the youths whom the terrorists forced them to lead the livestock out of the town are still with the terrorists.

According to the locals, the terrorists are making demand of premium motor spirit popularly known as petrol in large quantity as ransom before the youths who are in their captivity can be released.

Tureta is one of the local government areas in Sokoto State that has suffered series of attacks with several number of travellers abducted and some killed.
