Terrorists Kill fleeing bus driver in Katsina, Injure passengers

Terrorists operating in the Jibiya forest of Katsina state have launched a broad daylight attack on the state owned transport authority coaster bus, KTSTA, shooting and killing the driver and injured some other passengers.

The General Manager of the Transport Agency Haruna Musa who confirmed the incident said no abduction took place during the attack.

He added that, the incident occurred at about 12:30 pm when the terrorists were passing by in large numbers and the driver upon citing them, decided to make a sharp turn to escape as the vehicle was returning from Jibiya.

Musa further added that, due to the act by the driver of the bus, the terrorists opened fire on him thinking he was trying to raise an alarm.

He also said preliminary reports indicated that terrorists collected monies with passengers and did not abduct any.

Musa added that, it took the timely interventions of the military and the police to save the day which made the terrorists abandone their mission and escape into the forest.

As at the time of this report, the General Manager said the injured have since been evacuated to the hospital and are responding to treatment while efforts are on to convey the corpse of the deceased driver for burial.

A source around the area also confirmed that the incident occured around the Mil-Takwas village not too far away from several checkpoints of the police, customs and other security agencies.

He also confirmed that today Sunday July 24, is Jibiya market day and the road was very busy as traders were returning home when the incident occurred.

While the police is yet to respond to calls and text messages sent, both the General Manager of the Transport Authority and the source said, the injured have since been evacuated to the hospital and are responding to treatment while efforts are on to convey the corpse of the deceased for burial.
