At least six people have been killed while several others injured as terrorists launch attack on Tsafe town, the headquarters of Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, North-West Nigeria.

A resident of the town, Abubakar Muhammad informed AIT.live that the terrorists stormed the town at about 11am this Sunday wielding sophisticated weapons, and started shooting sporadically, killing six persons and leaving many residents with injuries.

According to the locals, suspected terrorists came on a reprisal mission and on market day to attack the State Community Protection Guards, CPD personnel over the killing of some of their members last week.

The suspected terrorists were said to have come in large numbers, riding on motorcycles, and invaded the town. Those who sustained gunshot injuries are currently receiving medical attention at the Tsafe General Hospital

The military is said to have promptly engaged in a gun battle with the terrorists, where four of them were arrested while others fled into the bush with possible gunshot wounds.

The residents want the Federal and Zamfara State Governments to intensify efforts in combating banditry to restore peace and stability so that people can go about carrying out their activities without being harmed by terror groups.

Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State has come under terrorist attacks in recent times, where several persons have been abducted in communities, and the Funtua-Tsafe-Gusau Highway, and some killed.

Efforts to get the police to confirm this latest attack were unsuccessful as the Zamfara State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent, ASP Yazid Abubakar did not respond to calls put across to him.
