A resident of the area, Darius Kura told AIT.live that the terrorists came in large numbers riding on motorcycles, looting shops and restaurants, and carting away valuables belonging to the locals.

Kura added that while the operation was ongoing, an aged man came out with a gun to confront the terrorists, but was killed in the process. He said the terrorists were on a mission to rustle cattle belonging to a group of herders in the community.

Another resident of Kagarko, Yahaya Barau, also confirmed the attack and said during the operation, residents of the area informed the Military Base in Kagarko.

On their way to repel the attack, the terrorists were said to have split into two groups and laid ambush on the military, killing one soldier and injuring two others.

Yahaya added that the terrorists have been harassing Janjala and Dogon Daji villages, mounting roadblocks on daily basis with over 10 people present in the captivity of the terrorists.

Efforts to speak with the Kagarko Local Government Chairman, Nasara Rabo, and the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Jalinge, were unsuccessful.
