Thousands Protest As Democratic Party Convention Opens in Chicago

The four-day national convention of the Democratic Party in Chicago has seen thousands of anti-Israel protesters attempting to besiege the venue where Vice President Kamala Harris will be formally certified as the party’s candidates just weeks after Joe Biden quit his re-election bid.

The outgoing President will headline the first night and he will be highlighting his successes in office, even as his wife,Jill Biden and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the candidate in 2016 race will also take to the podium.

The first evening of the convention will according to the programme, “showcase Kamala Harris’s commitment to fighting for everyday Americans” with a particular focus on “freedom”.

On Tuesday Biden’s former boss, President Barack Obama is expected to deliver remarks as well as Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.

On Wednesday, former President Bill Clinton and former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and
Harris’s running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, will give speeches, and on Thursday, Harris will take the stage to accept the presidential nomination and give her speech reportedly titled “For the Future”.

Her challenger for the White House, Donald Trump is in York, town in Pennsylvania, and then flies to Detroit, Michigan on Tuesday.

The former President takes his campaign to North Carolina on Wednesday and Arizona on Thursday.
