Residents of Ijagba, Imoru and Arimogija in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, have raised the alarm over incessant attacks on their communities by armed herdsmen.

In a save-our-soul message to the State Government, the residents who are mostly farmers allege that the maraduers have been terrorising their communities for over two weeks killing and destroying properties worth millions of Naira.

One of the residents in the communities who spoke under the condition of anonymity said the armed herdmens are in the habit of destroying farmlands which include yam, maize and cassava.

He explained that the armed herdsmen who always kidnap the locals for ransom have also warned them not to go near their farms and local plantation.

“They moved into a house and kidnapped a young girl just hours after they released a man from their captive after collecting ransom which was negotiated from N10 million to N1 million” he added.

According to him, the situation has continued to force residents of the communities to flee their homes to neighbouring towns and villages for fear of further attacks. “This is affecting their means of livelihood which is farming,” he revealed.

When contacted, Police spokesperson in Ondo State, Funmilayo Odunlami Omisanya said the Command has not been briefed about the incident.

She however assured that men of the force will be mobilised to the communities to ascertain the true nature of happenings.
