Some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were on Friday, attacked by suspected thugs at Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The officials were on their way to Shendam Local Government, headquarters of Plateau South Senatorial district, to conduct the bye-election slated for Saturday.
AIT gathered, that among those attacked were National Commissioner, Mohammed Haruna, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Halilu Pai, and other senior officials.

One of the attacked officials who pleaded anonymity said the National Commissioner was physically assaulted andseveral vehicles damaged.
INEC had rescheduled the bye-election into Plateau South which became vacant due to the demise of the former occupant from October 31 to December 5 following the #EndSARS protests that rocked the country in October.
In another related development, the convey of the Director-General of the Industrial Training Fund ITF Joseph Ari, and the Chairman Plateau State Internal Revenue Services Dashe Arlat ran into the siege laid by protesting workers of Quaan-Pan Local Government Council.

Meanwhile, the Plateau State Government has announced restriction of movement within all the local government in the southern zone ahead of Saturday’s by-election.
