Less than 20 hours to the nationwide Ward Congresses of the All Progressives Congress, APC, suspected political thugs on Tuesday reportedly stormed the Ondo State Secretariat of the party, assaulting the State Chairman, Ade Adetimehin, and other party stalwarts.

AIT.live gathered that party chieftains and officials had assembled at the secretariat for a routine stakeholders’ meeting ahead of Wednesday’s congress when the violence erupted.

The incident reportedly forced party members to scamper for safety, abruptly bringing the meeting to an end.

The armed thugs, allegedly wielding sticks, machetes and other crude weapons, stormed the premises without warning, shouting threats and causing panic.

It was also learnt that some leaders and party members sustained varying degrees of injuries during the commotion and have been taken to hospital for medical attention.

Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, who confirmed the incident, said the command, upon receiving a distress call, deployed tactical teams to ensure adequate security at the secretariat and its environs, while investigations continue.
