No fewer than three people have been confirmed dead on Saturday, during the Ekiti-East House of Assembly Constituency One Bye Election.

The incident occurred at Polling Unit 7, Ward 7 in Omuo Ekiti Local Government Area of Ekiti State, where Senator Abiodun Olujimi, representing Ekiti South Constituency and minority leader in the Senate voted.

Eye witnesses said, some suspected thugs invaded unit 7 and snatched the ballot box, chased away voters, and started shooting sporadically.

In the course of the shootings, bullets hit a policewoman, a National Youth Service Corps member attached to the unit, and four others, who sustained serious injuries.

Senator Olujimi who escaped death by whiskers confirmed that the suspected thugs were those of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.

A member of the Federal House of Representatives, Femi Bamisile, representing Ekiti South II Constituency, said he is yet to get to the root of who sent the thugs.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary, while the remaining three have been transferred to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti for treatment .

It could be recalled that the seat became vacant, following the death in February, of Juwa Adegbuyi, who represented the constituency.
