Former Kaduna State governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai is appearing in court today (Wednesday) on a three-count charge, over allegations he made that the phone communications belonging to Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, were unlawfully intercepted.
The former governor is facing serious accusations tied to alleged breaches of national security, in a case that is expected to draw significant political and legal scrutiny.
Security has been tightened around the court as proceedings get underway, marking a dramatic moment in Nigeria’s political landscape.
El-Rufai has, however, filed an application seeking to quash the case instituted against him by the State Security Service (SSS).
His media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, in a statement on Tuesday, noted that the SSS committed flaws bordering on incompetence, non-disclosure of the offence and gross abuse of court process.
