Nigeria's Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun

The Nigeria Police Force says growing public compliance and a surge in applications for tinted glass permits have created a need for more time to carefully screen requests and prevent abuse of the system.

Force Public Relations Officer DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, says, the extension is in line with this, that the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved a further extension of the grace period for enforcement of the policy, moving the new enforcement date to October 2, 2025.

The Police stress that the extension will allow for meticulous vetting of applications to ensure permits are issued only to eligible individuals, in line with national security considerations. Work is also continuing to fine-tune both digital and physical verification processes.

Motorists are reminded that the only authorized platform for application is https://possap.gov.ng and should disregard any unofficial channels. The public is further encouraged to report all cases of extortion, hidden charges, or unauthorized processing via the dedicated hotline 09169967000.

The Force says it remains committed to balancing public convenience with strong security measures for the safety of all Nigerians.
