President Bola Tinubu has approved the incorporation of 774 newly recruited National Health Fellows into Nigeria’s federal civil service, a move aimed at strengthening the country’s healthcare workforce.

The President made the announcement on Thursday at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja.

The initiative, titled “National Health Fellows” led by the Minister of Health, Ali Pate, is designed to address gaps in the healthcare sector of Nigeria by deploying skilled personnel to all the 774 Local Government Areas across the country.

President Bola Tinubu had approved the establishment of the National Health Fellows Programme, with young Nigerian Fellows to be engaged in all the 774 LGAs in the country.

Speaking at the event, the Nigerian Health Minister, Prof Pate said the recruitment aligns with the President Tinubu administration’s broader strategy to enhance healthcare delivery and improve access to quality medical services, particularly at the grassroots level.

Nigeria’s health sector has faced many challenges, including poor infrastructure, inadequate funding, and a shortage of skilled healthcare workers, which the Tinubu administration is hoping to change the narrative.
