Nigeria's President, Bola Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu on Monday declared that his administration will give strong, tangible, and sustained support to the Nigerian Judiciary, insisting that the integrity of the courts remains the foundation of the country’s democracy.

Speaking at the opening of the 2025 All Nigerian Judges’ Conference of the Superior Courts in Abuja, the President warned that corruption within the judicial system would “destroy the nation at its core,” stressing that justice must not only be done but must be seen to be fair, timely, and untainted.

Tinubu said Nigeria’s courts have historically served as the stabilising force in difficult moments and praised judges for safeguarding constitutional order.

He noted, however, that public confidence in the judicial process has waned, and that concerns about delays, integrity, and access to justice must be confronted head-on.

The President said his administration is committed to modernising judicial infrastructure, expanding digitisation of court processes, and ensuring better working conditions for judicial officers.

He pledged enhanced support for the National Judicial Institute, NJI to deepen training, professionalism, and intellectual renewal across the bench.

Tinubu also stressed that no reform would be meaningful without unwavering integrity, calling for firm and transparent disciplinary mechanisms within the Judiciary.

He said a Judiciary weakened by compromise becomes a threat to democracy, while a courageous, and principled one remains the last hope of the common man.

As he declared the conference open, the President urged judges to be bold in their deliberations and adopt practical solutions to reduce case backlogs, improve discipline, and strengthen access to justice for the poor and vulnerable.

Tinubu expressed confidence that the Judiciary would continue to serve as the moral conscience of the nation, saying, “Each fair judgment strengthens the Republic; each courageous ruling preserves its soul.”

In her remarks, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, reaffirmed the Judiciary’s commitment to internal reforms, judicial discipline, and the full adoption of technology-driven justice delivery.

She said the conference provides a critical platform for judges to interrogate challenges facing the courts and chart pathways to a stronger, more transparent, and more accountable judicial system.
