Tokyo Olympics Chief apologises but not remorseful over sexist comments

The head of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics organising committee, Yoshiro Mori says he will not resign following calls for his resignation over derogatory comments he made about women.

The 83 year old was reported to be gender insensitive after he said that women talk too much during a meeting of the Japanese Olympic Committee which comprises of 24 members five of whom are women.

At a press conference following an outraged on social media for him to resign, Mori acknowledged that his comments were inappropriate and against the Olympics spirit.

The former Japanese prime minister is known in the country for his controversial comments. His latest comment about women generated reactions on social media with the hashtag #moriresign trending on Twitter in Japan.

This is an issue the international Olympic committee will have to deal with to keep up with hosting the postponed games amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Over 70%of the Japanese public opposes holding the games as scheduled in July.
