Tolulope Arotile: First year memorial held for Nigeria’s first female combat pilot

The family of late Tolulope Arotile, Nigeria’s first female Air Force combat Pilot Officer who died at the Nigerian Air Force Base Kaduna on 14th July, 2020 have expressed disappointment over the inability of relevant authorities to conclude and make public the investigation of Tolulope’s death.


The Father of late Tolulope, Engineer Akintunde Arotile, who spoke ait.live at the first year remembrance service, held in Lokoja on Wednesday, said the family will continue to live in grief over the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

Friends and well wishers who joined family members at the Lokoja memorial, also expressed dissatisfaction over the inconclusive nature of the investigation of Tolulope’s death, a year after.


Others called for the immortalization of Tolulope with an Air force Base or formation in Kogi State named after her, saying her impact at the age of just 24 still remains a source of consolation for many.


Tolulope Arotile, the Ijumu born Air Force combat Pilot Officer died in a motor accident at the Kaduna Air Force Base on the 14th July 2020 at the age of 24.
