The All Progressives Congress in Cross River State has recorded a major political gain, as prominent figures from opposition parties have officially defected to the ruling party.
Among those who switched allegiance were key stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, and Peoples Redemption Party, a move widely seen as a boost to the APC’s growing influence in the state.
Governor Bassey Otu, represented by his deputy, Peter Odey, led party faithful to receive the new members into the APC, at the state APC Secretariat.
Those who officially defected included Emana Ambrose-Amawhe, former deputy governorship candidate of the PDP, Daniel Asuquo of the Labour Party, and Professor Edde Iji, State Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party amongst others.
The Governor assured the defectors equal treatment within the party, promising fairness, transparency, and a level playing field for all.
In separate remarks, party leaders and the defectors cited the development strides under Governor Otu’s administration as the motivation behind their decision to join the APC.
With more political heavyweights pitching their tent with the ruling party, the APC is poised to further solidify its position in Cross River State’s political terrain.
