A civil rights advocacy group, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has called on the FCTA and the Permanent Secretary, Olusade Adesola, to immediately halt all plans to demolish the Trademore estate in lugbe, Abuja

HURIWA’s National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko said this during a peaceful protest to the office of FCT permanent secretary in the central business district of Abuja on Tuesday.

Members of the Human Rights Writers Association Of Nigeria said they are worried that the federal capital territory administration, FCTA, had hurriedly declared Trademore estate in Lugbe a danger zone soon after the last flood in the area instead of taking time to study the facts around the flood menace.

To register their displeasure, members of the group dedicated to upholding the principles of human rights and social justice in Nigeria, all came out carrying placards with different inscriptions appealing to government to consider corrective measures instead of the outright demolition of the estate.

They explained that 90 percent of the houses in this sprawling Trademore estate are on mortgage and financed by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.

The Friday 23rd June flood disaster in Trademore estate in Lugbe, following a downpour killed three persons with a total of 116 houses submerged.
