Trafficking in person: Bauchi state records over 37 Cases in one year – NAPTIP

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has announced that no fewer than thirty seven cases of Trafficking in persons and other related cases have been recorded barely one year of its operations in Bauchi state.

Representative of the Commission, Abdulahi Abubakar made this known during a media Paley organised by a civil society organisation on the merit of Domestication and Enforcement of Trafficking in persons prohibition law in Bauchi.

Bauchi state has a law against Trafficking in persons, violence against persons prohibition law enforcement and Administration act 2015. With fines .

The Question is, has the laws helped in reducing the crime in the state?

The discussants, blamed parents for improper upbringing of children, and charged the community leaders to Educate landlords to have good knowledge of their Tenants.

The representative of NAPTIP, Abdulahi noted that Bauchi has high cases of Child Trafficking in persons and tasked the general public to speak out against offenders.

NAPTIP was also challenged to create more awareness and frequent raids at flash points across the state.

In January 2025, Bauchi state Governor Bala Mohammed, signed into law stiffer penalty for offenders, with emphasis on the importance of community trust in preventing child abduction and trafficking.
