Agyragu community in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State has been thrown into mourning following the discovery of the lifeless bodies of 5 children inside an abandoned car parked in a residential compound.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the incident in a statement in Lafia.
SP Nansel disclosed that one Mr. Ozimna Ogbor, a friend of the late father of 2 of the deceased children, reported the incident to the Agyragu Divisional Police Office after the children were discovered unresponsive inside the car near his residence.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the children, aged between 5 and 10, may have died of suffocation after been trapped inside the unserviceable vehicle, which had been parked in the compound for an extended period.
The statement said the Commissioner of Police, Shettima Mohammed, has ordered a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and has called for calm in the community.
He urged parents and car owners to remain vigilant and ensure that children are not left unattended to around parked vehicles.
