No fewer than 13 petitions have been received by the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Calabar, Cross River State, South-South Nigeria.

In a statement made available to journalists on Monday, the Secretary of the Tribunal, A. D. Bambur, said the Tribunal in its sittings, granted leave to all the applicants to go ahead and inspect the election materials.

According to Bambur, the breakdown of the petitions showed that three petitions are challenging the elections of the three Senators-elect, while 10 are challenging the election of the eight House of Representatives Members-elect in the State.

Bambur, explained that parties involved are currently serving various summons and petitions to each other.

Recall that Governor Ben Ayade, who lost his bid to return to the Senate to the incumbent Senator representing Cross River North, Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had his case listed as Petition number, EPT/CRS/Sen/2/2023. Governor Ayade contested the Cross River North Senatorial election under the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The Senatorial elections in Cross River South and Cross River Central are also being challenged at the Tribunal.
