Lawyers of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP have objected to getting the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hudu Yunusa-Ari, to testify as a witness before the Adamawa State Election Petitions Tribunal.
According to the PDP lawyers, the name of Hudu Yunusa-Ari was not part of the submission initially filed by the petitioners, as one of the principal witnesses.
It was session of arguments and counter-arguments between PDP lawyers and those of the All Progressives Congress, APC, at the Tribunal, sitting in Yola, Adamawa State capital.
The argument of the PDP lawyers and those of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, led by Damian Dodo, was that it would amount to illegality to allow Hudu Yunusa-Ari to testify before the Tribunal. Counsel to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Mohammed Lawan, upheld the argument of the PDP lawyers.
Counsel to APC, Akin Olujimi, SAN, however, views the scenario differently.
The presiding Judge, Justice Theodora Obi, however, reserved judgement but ordered the embattled REC, Hudu Yunusa-Ari, out of the witness box, where he spent hours without permission to utter a word.
The APC Governorship candidate, Aishatu Binani Dahiru, is challenging the victory of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri at the polls.
