Tricycle operators in kano on Monday embarked on strike forcing commuters to trek long distances to work.
The strike came unannounced.
The trycle operators are protesting the 18,500naira levy imposed on each tricycle by the state government
Thre are over 300,000 tricycles operating in kano.

The State Government would have raked in over 5.5billion naira from the Tricycle operators if they had agreed to pay the levy.
The commercial city of Kano is hard hit by the action of these transporters with school expected to resume on Monday after the Christmas and New Year break.
