Troops record successes in Zamfara, Sokoto and Katsina States

Troops of the recently inaugurated operation of the Nigerian Army tagged Operation Sahel Sanity have neutralised scores of bandits, left some with various degrees of injuries and rescued 8 kidnapped victims in the 3 states of Katsina, Sokoto and Zamfara.

It has also recovered 711 cows, 592 sheep, large cache of ammunition, guns, local dane guns, motorcycles and assorted Items.

The acting Director Defense Media operations Defense Headquarters, Abuja, Brigadier general Benard Onyeuko made the disclosure at the Nigerian Army super camp 4 Faskari town while briefing journalists on the successes recorded by operation Sahel sanity in less than a week of its flagged off.

The Operation led to the killing of one of the bandits at Gidan Jaja village where one Mallam Halilu Ibrahim who is an informant to bandits and seller of rustled cattle was arrested while he was about to display some stolen cattle for sale. Troops have also recovered 2 AK 47 rifles from bandits in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The troops also recovered 117 cows and 34 sheep after exchange of gun fire with the bandits at Kwaren Ganuwa in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to the Acting Director, Defense Media Operations, Brigadier-General Benard Onyeuko following a tip-off on activities of bandits and cattle rustlers at Ruwan Dawa in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, 14 cows were recovered from fleeing bandits who abandoned their loot on the deployment of troops to the area.

In Katsina State, troops have rescued young girls at Gidan Baure in Jibiya Local Government Area while in Sokoto State, one Mallam Sani Sada was arrested from Katsale village in Isa Local Government Area after he was identified by the locals as one of the bandits who rustled 4 cows. The suspect during preliminary interrogation confessed to being among Turji boys operating under a notorious bandit leader who commissioned them to kill and rustle cows in the area.

Brigadier-General Onyeuko also said troops have arrested 2 informants of bandits including Kabiru Sahabi and Abubakar Yusuf who are logistics suppliers and dealers in rustled cattles and are currently undergoing interrogation.
