Hundreds of truck drivers of Nigeria’s cement giants Dangote have staged a protest on the Lokoja-Abuja highway in Kogi State against the alleged brutality of military personnel at a checkpoint which led to the death of one of their colleagues.

Eye witnesses told ait.live that trouble started On Monday evening following punishment meted out to the deceased for violating the checkpoint regulations.
He was said to have been subsequently ordered to dive into the river and drowned in the process.

Another version of the incident, says the military personnel, while punishing the deceased truck driver for flouting its orders hit him hard on the head and he collapsed and died.

Hundreds of drivers took to the streets blocking the highway leading to the Nigerian capital, insisting on going nowhere until Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello comes to address personally.

ait.live gathered that hundreds of delegates heading for the All Progressives Congress National Convention were among those caught up in the logjam, scrambling with other motorists and commuters for a way out.
