The United States lawmaker who initiated the bill to designate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern in the United States House of Representatives, Riley Moore has criticized China for its warning to the U.S not to interfere with Nigeria’s internal affairs.

Moore, according to reports in the Newsweek magazine, insisted that the Chinese government lacked the authority to lecture the United States on foreign policy matters.

Moore accused the Chinese government of persecution of religious and ethnic minorities, referencing reports of Christian pastors being arrested in China, as well as claims about the treatment of ethnic groups in the country.

“President Trump is absolutely right to defend our brothers and sisters in Christ who are suffering horrific persecution, and even martyrdom, for their faith

“We will not be lectured to by a Communist autocracy that recently arrested 30 Christian pastors for their faith and throws ethnic minorities in concentration camps.”

The Congressman’s remarks add to the diplomatic tensions surrounding Nigeria-United States relations following the threats of military attack by President Trump for what he calls the Nigerian authorities’ inability to protect Christians from terrorists, an allegation refuted by the Tinubu administration.
