President Bola Tinubu has officially approved the constitution of the Nigerian side of the U.S-Nigeria Security Joint Working Group, a key step aimed at strengthening collaboration between the two countries in addressing security challenges.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga on Thursday, the approval follows agreements reached during recent visit of high-level Nigerian delegation to Washington DC, led by National Security Adviser, NSA, Nuhu Ribadu.
Ribadu will head the Nigerian team, supported by senior officials from relevant government agencies that include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar; Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; and Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Bernard M. Doro. Others are the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed; and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
Supporting the group as secretariat members including Idayat Hassan from Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA and Paul Alabi of the Nigerian Embassy in the United States.
President Tinubu urged the group to engage effectively with their U.S counterparts to ensure the smooth operationalisation of agreements across all sectors, emphasising the importance of sustained cooperation in enhancing national security.
