Advocacy towards eliminating gender-based violence and harassment at workplaces formed the discussions and deliberations at this year’s Annual Seminar of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Nigeria Women Commission in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
The two-day seminar brought together members of the TUC-Women Commission across the 36 states of the federation to fashion solutions and mechanisms for eradicating violence against women in the course of their work.
The Women Commission of Nigeria’s Trade Union Congress (TUC) has taken headlong action in the fight against gender-based violence and harassment at work.



The National Women Commission Chairperson of the TUC, Comrade Hafsat Shaibu said violence against women and girls is the most persistent and devastating human rights violation in the world, adding that it is unreported because of the stigma and shame associated with it.

The Akwa Ibom State Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, who was the special guest at the event, said women experienced violence and harassment in various ways at work, and expressed hope that the outcome of the TUC Women Seminar would help eradicate the menace.
The event witnessed the cutting of the seminar Cake to declare the event open.
