At least two persons have been confirmed dead after armed robbers attacked a bullion van conveying cash from the commercial city of Aba to Umuahia,
the Abia State capital, South East of Nigeria. The attack reportedly took place at the notorious Ntigha junction on the Enugu – Port Harcourt expressway. One of the victims is said to be a staff of the commercial bank that was moving the money,
while the other is one of the robbers gunned down by the Police. Three escort policemen were evacuated from the scene after sustaining severe gunshot injuries. Eye witnesses say, the robbers carted away an undisclosed huge sums of money into get away speed vehicles.
The Abia State Police Command spokesman, Geoffrey Ogbonna has confirmed the incident. He says the robbers barricaded the expressway where they laid ambush for the bullion van. So far, no arrests have been made,
though security operatives claim they have opened investigations into the incident, appealing to hospitals in the State to report anyone in their facilities with bullet wounds.
