Scene of three-storey building collapsed in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State

A three-storey building under construction has collapsed inside the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, known as FETHA I, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, South-East Nigeria.

Though no casualty was recorded, two persons were successfully rescued alive.

AIT.live gathered that the building collapsed on Tuesday afternoon as some workers were at the site, with two of them trapped in the rubble. The emergency rescue operation involved engineers and officials of the State Ministry of Works, Capital Territory Development Authority and security agencies.

While one of the trapped workers was rescued moments after the collapse and taken to the hospital, it took several hours and efforts lasting till 8pm to bring out the second survivor.

The second victim looked weak and exhausted when he was finally rescued and was quickly rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

The collapse of the building comes four days after a three-storey hotel building under construction also collapsed at Eduna Street along Hatchery Road in Abakaliki.
