United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio says the U.S is now actively in counterterrorism cooperation with the Nigerian government and security forces.
Rubio made the statement while addressing concerns over violence against Christians in Nigeria.
The Secretary did not provide further details on the scope or nature of the cooperation.
Nigeria has faced persistent security challenges from insurgent groups including Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, alongside rising cases of banditry and communal violence in several states.
Attacks targeting Christian communities, particularly in the Middle Belt and northern regions, have drawn international attention.
The U.S and Nigeria have a history of security partnerships, including military training, intelligence sharing, and equipment support aimed at combating terrorism and violent extremism.
