United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken will be in Nigeria next week as part of his four-nation tour of Africa, which includes visits to Cape Verde, Cote d’Ivoire and Angola.
In a statement on the State Department website, Blinken will use the visit to highlight how the President Joe Biden administration has accelerated the U.S.-Africa partnership since the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit in areas such as climate, food, and health security.
The top american diplomat is expected to meet his Nigerian counterpart, Yusuf Tuggar at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, and then meet President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa. Their discussions will focus on issues of the advancement of security partnerships and geo-political assessments and alignments.
Blinken last visited Nigeria in November 2021, barely 10 months after his appointment and met Tinubu’s predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari,
