The trial of the case in the murder of the late job seeker, Iniubong Umoren, resumed at an Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in Uyo.

After the pre-trial stage, the trial proper began with the main complainant in the case and sister to the deceased, Ifiok Umoren, testifying in court.

Upon application for an adjournment by the prosecution counsel, Utibe Nwoko, standing in for Uwemedimo Nwoko, SAN, the trial judge, Justice Bennett Umoh, granted the application and subsequently adjourned the matter to dates in November and December for accelerated hearing on resumption from the delay caused by the legal year vacation.

The trial Judge also struck out an application for bail filed by the counsel to the second accused, Emms Ekongson Sr, saying that the application came by surmon rather than by a motion.

The various counsels told reporters that the trial was going on smoothly.

Uduak Akpan, the first accused, is standing trial for raping and murdering the late job seeker while his father, Frank Akpan, who is the second accused person, is standing trial for aiding his son to escape after allegedly committing the crime.
