UEFA Europa League: Joe Aribo, other Nigerian players shine in round of 32

Joe Aribo stood out among the rest he scored the opening goal for Rangers of Scotland in their seven-goal thriller against royal Antwerp of Belgium at the bouisilstadion.

Aribo who has two goals to his name in six appearances in the green and white colours of Nigeria opened the flood gate of goals for Steven Gerrard’s side as rangers cart away maximum points in Belgium defeating royal Antwerp four three.

His compatriot Leon Balogun was a first half substitute for injured James Tavernier.

Elsewhere at the Sinobo Stadium in Prague, super-eagles midfielder Wilfried Ndidi and Kelechi Ihenacho were cautioned as Leicester city held Slavia Prague featuring another Nigerian peter Olayinka to a barren draw.

In Spain, at the Estadio Nevio Nine players of Nigerian descent featured for different teams on Thursday in the round of 32 of the 2020/21 Carmenes, Victor Osimhen was on the losing end as his Napoli side fell two-nil to Granada while Fikayo Tomori who has featured for England and Canada at youth levels but still eligible to play for his fatherland had a superb performance for ac Milan in their two-all draw against Crevena Zvezda.

In Kyiv at the NSK stadium, David Okereke and his visiting club Brugge shared the spoils with dynamo Kyiv in their one-all draw while Believe Iyayi saw 27 minutes of action as Dynamo Zagreb carted away maximum points against Fc Krasnodar.

It ended three two in Favour of the visiting team.
