The sacked UK Ambassador to the United States, Peter Mandelson has been held at a Police station in Camdem near London.
Metropolitan Police say he is being held for allegations of misconduct in public office.
His arrest follows search warrants carried out at two properties in Wiltshire and Camden.
Allegations are that when he was Business Secretary about two decades ago, he shared sensitive government information with a deceased sex offender, Jerry Epstein.
Mandelson who is a member of the House of Lords has not publicly commented on the allegations even after pressure was mounted on him to admit his relationship with Epstein was not simply a social one.
The arrest of former Ambassador comes just days after King Charles brother, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor was arrested- also for alleged misconduct in public office.
Both men maintaned strong relationship with Epstein who was convicted for sex offences in 2008 and was awaiting trial for more severe charges of teenage prostitution, but committed suicide in 2019.
