United Kingdom has suspended the issuance of visa to Nigerians and citizens of other countries on its travel red list.

The update is contained in a statement by the British High Commission in Nigeria. It says visa applications are put on hold pending the lifting of the restrictions due to Omicron variant of the Covid-19.

The visa categories affected include tourism, visiting family and friends, short-term business activities, academic programs, and medical visas.

For those who already have UK visitors visa, the statement reiterates that they will not be granted entry into England. Separate entry guidelines however apply for Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The statement says only applicants with very compelling and compassionate circumstances will have their visa applications considered and permitted entry into England from the red list countries.

For those who already have their visa applications submitted, the statement advises such applicants to wait until the restriction is lifted otherwise they may request for discontinuance of their application.
