In 24 hours, the Nigerian Government has evacuated 779 citizens who escaped war in Ukraine to Romania, Poland and Hungary in three chartered special flights.

The Federal Government is also providing accommodation and upkeep for those left behind due to the capacity of the aircraft pending when other evacuation flights will return to airlift them.

The tired and exhausted young Nigerians including children arrived the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in three batches at 7am, 6:5pm and 11:25 pm on Friday.

They were Immediately documented on their arrival and subjected to Covid-19 test before being allowed to reunite with their loved ones.

One after the other they narrated their ordeals where they were trapped in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Government officials who were on ground to receive the returnees say it will not relent in the evacuation exercise until all Nigerians who are willing to return home are safely airlifted from Ukraine and neighboring countries.

Some evacuees from the first and second batches who are based in Lagos State had to stay behind for the third evacuation aircraft to airlift them at once to the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Ikeja.

For those who are not residing in Abuja, $100 stipend was given to them on arrival for transport fare that will take them to their final destinations.
