Nigeria’s House of Representatives has denied reports in some online and traditional media alleging that the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila blocked a motion by the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu demanding the resignation of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami over allegations of involvement in acts of terrorism.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the House spokesperson Benjamin Kalu, the “misrepresentation of facts for the sake of sensationalism” necessitated the clarification.
The statement explained that the allegations against Pantami cannot be debated under Order 6 which only applies to legislative privileges and wondered why the Minority Leader who should know better would make his prayer through a wrong order of the House rules.

The statement noted that the House is not unaware of the severity of the issue and its nature as a matter of public concern and express readiness to give audience to Elumelu or any other lawmaker to present the issue provided the prayer is sought through proper channels and brought under relevant rules of the House.
