UNICEF, Bauchi State Government set to tackle out-of-school syndrome

The United Nations Children’s Fund(UNICEF) and the Bauchi State Government have begun a survey of out-of-school children across the 20 local governments for school enrollment.

According to UNICEF, the mapping is to enable the state ascertain the actual number of out-of school children in the state for proper planning.

The move is a follow up to reports in 2022 stating that Bauchi State ranked highest with out-of-school children in Nigeria.

The figure stood at1.2 million, children and apparently became a source of concern to UNICEF and the Bauchi State Government.

Three hundred enumerators and forty supervisors have been trained to undertake the mapping exercise across the 20 local governments.

According to UNICEF Chief of Bauchi Field Office, Clement Adams, the exercise will increase public participation and respond to the global goals of achieving education for all and sustainable Development Goal 4.
